Monster Hunter Rise Sunreak is a demo action and adventure game from Capcom, and is a part of the long-running Monster Hunter franchise as downloadable content (DLC) for Monster Hunter Rise. This hunting experience takes place in an all-new location while adding new monsters and features to the already large world of the base game. With its added content, it’s time to return, whether solo or with friends.

Challenge the Three Lords

In Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, you explore a new locale—a land beyond the sea. However, this new area is plagued with abnormal events caused by a trio of new monsters known as the Three Lords. It also comes with a host of other new monsters aside from the lords. Additionally, this DLC also brings back old monsters not featured in the base game.

In terms of graphics and gameplay, it doesn’t change much, although it does add a number of new content. There are new status effects, skills, and abilities for all 14 weapon types from the base game. There are no new weapon types but the changes are enough to inspire entirely new gameplay strategies, which will come in handy for seasoned players of the game.

However, as a DLC, it is not playable right away. First, you need to own a copy of the base game. Then, you must have progressed enough to gain access to the Sunbreak content. Specifically, you must complete the seven-star hub quest “Serpent Goddess of Thunder.” Similarly, it also requires the same steep learning curve that is particularly challenging for new MH players.

Expanding the Hunter's Arsenal: Anomaly Investigations and Melding Pot

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak not only introduces new monsters and a fresh locale but also brings several enhancements to the existing features. The Anomaly Investigations level cap has been increased to 300, providing more opportunities for hunters to engage with challenging Risen Elder Dragons. The Melding Pot receives an update, including the new "Qurious Melding" feature, which allows for even greater skill customization, helping hunters fine-tune their load-outs.

Special Investigations and Event Quests: New Challenges and Rewards

Furthermore, the expansion offers a new quest type, Special Investigations, which unlocks after completing an Anomaly Investigation at level 300. These quests present hunters with a variety of power-ups, including increased strength and far-reaching attacks. Conquering these formidable foes rewards players with the prestigious Badge of Heroes.

The DLC also adds more Event Quests with various rewards such as poses, Bloodmalice Layered Armor, Buff Body Layered Armor, and Lagombi Ears. For those interested in cosmetic options, paid downloadable content like face paint, layered armor, hairstyles, and more is available. A worthy addition to MH Rise

Although it doesn’t entirely reinvent its base game, Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak is still a must-have, especially for players of MH Rise. It might feel inaccessible to a lot of players, but it creates a sense of continuity by imposing requirements from the base game. Even the slight additions to the gameplay mechanics open a lot of play possibilities. Lastly, the titular Monsters are a sight to behold and a rewarding challenge to conquer.
